Folweni housing project to continue

THE City’s human settlement unit on Tuesday, 28 March assured residents of Folweni’s ward 95 that the construction of more than 1,600 houses will continue.

Addressing residents during a Masakhane community meeting on 19 March, municipal official Bonginkosi Hlengwa said there a meeting was planned between the ward councillor and the project manager. “We are aware that there are houses that are 30 square metres while the ones being currently built are 40 square metres. These are among the issues that will be discussed with the councillor with the aim of finding a solution,” he said. Hlengwa said his unit had an open door policy. “We are based at Shell House in Durban and we will be more than happy to assist you should you have queries regarding any housing project or anything relating to housing,” he said.

Ward 95 councillor Thokozani Xulu called on residents to engage him and the ward leadership on issues concerning service delivery. “We have more chances of succeeding if we work together and talk to each other if there are concerns,” said Councillor Xulu.

Unavailability of water, electricity, library, the need for passages and rehabilitation of roads were some of the concerns raised by residents during the meeting. Responding to the unavailability of water in the ward, Sibusisiwe Thusi from the water department said the water problem had since been resolved. “We had a problem with our pumps, which our technicians have fixed.”
