Toti swimmer makes waves at Prestige gala

Toti swimmer Monica Botha proudly displays the numerous medals she won at the 2017 Prestige gala at Kings Park Pool.

An Amanzimtoti swimmer made waves when top swimmers from all provinces met at Kings Park Pool from 11 to 15 July for the 2017 Prestige gala.

Amanzimtoti’s Monica Botha, who has changed clubs to the North Coast Dolphins Swim team (NCDS Ballito), competed in nine individual girls 10-years-old and under events, three team relays (12-years-old and under), girls 12-years-old and under 200m LCM freestyle and girls 14-years-old and under 200m LCM backstroke and breaststroke, as well as the women’s open 400m LCM freestyle.

Monica swam 19 personal bests in heats, relays and finals during a total of 16 events over five days.

Results: Girls 10-years-old and under events:

  • 50m LCM backstroke – 37.18 (PB, silver);
  • 100M LCM Backstroke – 1.20.93 (PB, silver);
  • 50M LCM freestyle – 31.82 (PB, gold);
  • 100m LCM freestyle – 1.09.89 (PB, gold);
  • 50m LCM breaststroke – 41.65 (PB, gold);
  • 100m LCM breaststroke – 1.33.18 (PB, gold);
  • 50m LCM butterfly – 35.85 (PB, silver);
  • 100m LCM butterfly – 1.22.81 (PB, silver);
  • 50m LCM individual medley – 2.52.75 (PB, gold).

Girls 12-years-old and under:

  • 200m LCM freestyle – 2.33.76 (PB, placed 15th out of 67 swimmers).

Girls 14-years-old and under:

  • 200m LCM backstroke – 2.58.07 (PB, placed 38th out of 75 swimmers).
  • 200m LCM breaststroke – 3.24.51 (PB, placed 29th out of 58 swimmers).

Women open:

  • 400m LCM freestyle – 5.26.11 (placed 32nd out of 126 swimmers).

Girls 12-years-old and under relays –

  • three bronze medals.
