Lower Illovo estate resident bitten in tussle with burglar

A brave Lower Illovo resident fought off a knife-wielding intruder after the man broke into his house in the early hours of Sunday morning, 28 January.

Lee Geyser (40) said he and his wife Mariska were asleep in their estate home when he was awoken by the intruder disconnecting his cellphone from the charger at about 1am. “I fought him off while my wife ran out,” he said. “We fought for a long time. When my wife came back into the room, she screamed ‘knife’ and I backed off.”

The thief took advantage of Lee’s retreat and fled over their boundary wall. He escaped with three cellphones he had grabbed before his confrontation with Lee.
Mariska was unharmed and Lee sustained bite marks to his leg. Fortunately their three daughters were not in the house at the time of the attack.

A case has been opened with Amanzimtoti SAPS.
