A MODERN, new library will open at Galleria Mall in the first half of this year, bringing to four the number of local libraries available to avid book worms.
This municipal library will not replace any of the pre-existing sites at Amanzimtoti Civic Centre, Athlone Park or Warner Beach but rather provide library and reading resources to cater for a wider audience from the regional area extending to Isipingo and the outlying areas behind Amanzimtoti.
According to a series of artist’s impressions, the modern library will be a funky, light and colour-filled space called the Galleria Mall Municipal Library, which is destined to complement the mall’s existing Siyakha Learning Lab.

Speculation that this library would replace the main library sited at the civic centre complex opposite Hutchison Park was dispelled by Cllr Andre Beetge, who explained that all existing libraries in Amanzimtoti will continue to function as usual, as they cater well for different groups in the community.
“As a business, our corporate social investment (CSI) focus is education, hence the opening of a state-of-the-art municipal library in this safe and secure environment,” explained Galleria Mall marketing manager Anusha Timul. “It will also complement the Siyakha Learning Lab, and will be sited close by.”
