Durban burglary gang of six bust after tip-off

BAIL was denied in Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court for a housebreaking gang of six who were caught thanks to a tip-off on Saturday, 7 April.

The gang who are suspected to be linked to robberies of several jewellery stores and other chain stores around Durban, appeared in court on Monday, 9 April.

They were caught on Saturday, after ET Rapid Response’s tactical response team received information about a possible burglary about to take place at Umbogintwini’s Arbour Road business district.

The TRT team along with members of Toti SAPS crime prevention unit spotted a suspicious vehicle circling the area. The same vehicle was seen parked outside a pedestrian entrance at Arbour Town. A search revealed a number of false registration plates had been placed over the original licence plate. Inside the car, they found housebreaking implements and other tools of the trade. Men aged from 23 to 51 were arrested for being in possession of housebreaking implements.

Why suspects’ faces are “blacked out” on Social media:-

“When suspects are arrested, it is important to remember that identity parades will form part of the investigation process. Therefore, photographs depicting the faces of suspects should not be distributed at all, since it can have a negative impact on the investigation and any identity parades to be held in connection with the case.”

They’ve also not yet pleaded in a court, so if any newspaper shows their faces, they’re identifying them as criminals, when they may not have even done any crime.

You can only name or identify after they’ve pleaded in court.
