POWERLIFTING heroine, Meagen Nell (20) is making great strides in the sport she loves, while serving as an absolute inspiration to all whose paths she crosses on her journey.

When competing in Raise The Bar 2018, she wowed the crowds by achieving best female squat overall, as well as best novice overall.

Meagen only began taking her powerlifting seriously some months ago, and since she decided to devote her whole self to the sport and dive head-on into what she loves, her results have been increasingly pleasing.

“I’ve always had a passion for powerlifting, but never pursued the sport as over the years boyfriends didn’t approve of it,” she explained.

“When I returned from New Zealand last year, I took up the sport. But it was only after I entered a rookie competition in February that I decided to become serious about powerlifting.”

Meagen grew up in Warner Beach and has always enjoyed sport and the ocean. When at her bodyboarding prime some years ago, she represented her province in the South African Bodyboarding Championships where she placed extremely well.

“Powerlifting makes me happy,” she simply explained. “It makes me happy to push my body beyond what limits I thought I had. I now feel good about myself and who I am, and I love being strong. The feeling I get from lifting something so heavy brings me indescribable amounts of joy.”
