Umgababa man jailed for 15 years for uncle’s murder

An Umgababa man was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on Wednesday, 9 May for killing his uncle.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 9 August 2014, at about 7.30pm, Sbusiso Eugene Mkhize (27) was at his family home in the Umgababa area when his uncle Reginald Mduduzi Mkhize (48) came into his room to reprimand him for using drugs.

The court heard that Sbusiso left his room and returned with a knife and stabbed his uncle. Reginald tried to get away from his nephew but he followed him into the yard, sat on top of him and fatally stabbed him.

A case of murder was opened at Amanzimtoti police station for investigation. On 12 December 2014, SAPS members proceeded to Amanzimtoti CBD where Sbusiso was hiding and arrested him for murder. He appeared in court, was remanded in custody until he was convicted and sentenced in Umlazi Regional Court.
