Help spread warmth this winter with Winterhoop

THIS June ‘Hope for Winter’ or ‘Winterhoop’ urges the community to spread the warmth by donating a variety of different things to the organisation’s drop-off points.

The campaign will ensure the donations reach those who have to brave the icy bite this winter, those who are most in need.

Hope for Winter/ Winterhoop is a campaign run in conjunction with various charity organisations, churches and the media to address the need for warmth and charity in SA during the winter. The campaign sees food, clothing and blankets – among other winter necessities – distributed to as many people in need during the winter.

Items in need include warm clothing, shoes, underwear, scarves, socks, beanies, gloves, blankets and non-perishable food, among other things. Good Samaritans are encouraged to take a trip to the nearest shelter and provide a warm meal to those in need.

The local drop-off point is at the Dutch Reformed Church in Frost Street, across the road from Amanzimtoti Primary School. Donations can be dropped at the prefab building on the right, in the parking area of the church. Contact Martin Prinsloo prior to making donations on 083-650-5315.

For more information about the campaign, follow Winterhoop on Facebook, visit www.winterhoop.org, or email [email protected].

British poet Edith Sitwell reminds us that “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

Keeping this in mind, don’t let yourself forget to spread the warmth with those so in need this upcoming winter.
