Nine people were arrested during an eThekwini Outer South Cluster operation to address the increased crime in the Isipingo, KwaMakhuta, Umlazi and Bhekithemba areas on Thursday, 5 July from 2pm to 10pm.
A total of 45 members with 22 vehicles held 12 blue light patrols and three roadblocks in various hot spot crime areas where 145 people and 87 vehicles were searched.
The operation involved strategies in areas to address crimes influenced by drugs and liquor. Arrests were made for possession of dagga, three for possession of heroin and one for dealing in liquor without a licence. Four were also made for assault GBH and one for possession of a dangerous weapon.
Acting eThekwini Outer South Cluster commander, Brigadier Vukani Mgobhozi said the aim of the operation was to reduce crime. “We are committed to continue to have focused operations addressing serious crime within the hotspots in the cluster. We are also targeting crime generators such as alcohol and drug abuse. There will be continuous Fiela operations throughout the holiday season and this will make a valuable contribution to impacting crime as a whole.”
