Policing network cracks Upper South Coast housebreaking gang

A gang responsible for committing ruthless housebreakings around the Toti and South Coast area have been arrested.

The breakthrough came when W/O Logan Naidoo of Umkomaas SAPS received information of a suspect trying to sell stolen property. He was apprehended and the stolen property was linked to an Umkomaas case of house breaking.

The modus operandi used in the Umkomaas break-in caught the attention of ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member Tony Lokker and Community Crime Prevention Organisation’s (CCPO) George Snodey.

“We went to Umkomaas and met with W/O Naidoo,” said Lokker. “Due to the method used in cases in Toti, it was suspected this was a suspect we were looking for. He pointed out further exhibits, which were positively linked to three other cases in Amanzimtoti, Scottburgh and Umkomaas.”

Goods worth over R300,000 was recovered.

“This breakthrough comes after many hours spent by George and myself looking and waiting for this gang. They have hit Toti hard over an 11-month period and consist of hardened criminals who know what they are doing and are well-armed too.”

In follow-up investigations by Umkomaas SAPS, ET, the CCPO and provincial trio cluster, four more suspects were rounded up, as well as more exhibits from various robberies. A 9mm pistol and ammunition were also recovered.

“Investigations are ongoing and I am confident the remaining suspects will be picked up soon. We will not rest until all the suspects are behind bars,” said Lokker.
