Young beauty Londeka Gumede will represent Amanzimtoti at the finals of the Miss KZN Ambassador pageant in Ballito on 20 October. The grade 7 Doon Heights Primary School pupil won through to the finals by receiving votes on social media.
An initial field of 72 contestants has been whittled down to 35 to strut their stuff at the finals. “I was confident I would make it through to the finals, as I did a pretty good job,” said the bubbly 12-year-old.
“I entered Little Miss South Africa in Pretoria in 2014 but I didn’t have the confidence I have now, so I didn’t do as well as I had hoped.” Taking her pageants seriously now, Londeka watches modelling shows on TV to get tips and practises her walking and talking.
“At the finals we have to do two walks – one in jeans and a sash, and one in an evening gown. Thereafter we will answer questions from the judges, before they announce the winner.”
Londeka has been helping out at Operation Bobbi Bear, donating clothes and making sandwiches on Fridays. “I enjoy doing community work and I’m thinking of volunteering at the SPCA and at The Elder’s Voice’s homes.”
When she’s not strutting her stuff on a catwalk, Londeka enjoys playing soccer, netball and gymnastics. As a member of Vantage Gymnastics Academy, she recently won gold at the SA Gymnastics Federation champs and will move up to level four next year. “I enjoy entering pageants and I would like to continue with them,” she said.
