UPDATE: Truck driver absconds as woman fights for her life after N2 crash

A truck driver fled the scene of an accident which occurred at about 7.30am on Friday morning, 17 March which left a motorist critically injured.

Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the collision site along the N2 south just before the Umgababa River.

Reports from the scene indicate a truck with scrap metal was traveling towards Durban when it  veered across the centre median and crashed into the side of a car on the southbound carriageway.

Paramedics and the fire department responded and found the car to have veered off the road on impact.  The car’s twisted frame had come to rest about 50 metres from the roadway with its front in the river and the rest of the vehicle was under dense bush.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, had sustained critical injuries. Medics stabilised and  transported her to a nearby hospital. The driver of the truck absconded from the scene while his passenger escaped from the crash uninjured.
