High school musical to bring Burlesque glamour

KINGSWAY High School’s 44th pupil-produced musical, ‘Let’s Burlesque’ based on the movie ‘Burlesque’, will be staged from 3 to 6 May.

The local high school, known for its amazing pupil-led productions over the years, is bringing a twist of glitz and glamour this year.

The Los Angeles based movie entails Alice moving to the big city after a fall-out with her former boss. After trying and failing at every audition, Alice unwittingly finds herself in a burlesque club after following the music in from the street. She finds Tess and the dancers performing and on meeting Jack, decides to pursue a career on stage. Rejected at an audition immediately, Alice isn’t disheartened and carries on her climb up to the glitz and glamour of Burlesque-themed dancing.

Main characters include Asanda Mngadi as ‘Vincent’, Connor Dewar as ‘Vaughn’, Mitchell Whiting as ‘Shaun’, Sabastian Hide as ‘Jack’, Lisa Hlatshwayo as ‘Alice’, Jordyn Canning as ‘Nikkie’, Thobeka Phahla as ‘Tess’, Asanda Hlophe as ‘Markus’ and Chanelle Matthee as ‘Marilyn’.

With Renee Beetge as the producer, Michaela Botha as co-producer, Cayla Halliwell as manager, Lauren Williams and Hope Bowley choreographing and Pride Khumalo and Phumelele Mbatha as singers, the musical promises a true Burlesque experience.

Tickets are available through the Kingway High School’s finance office.
